NTFS to RAW? TestDisk saves :hail:

Ok today i lost 10 years of my life again (i think i’ll live something like 5 more years since i’ve lost so many of them because of computer crashes and other things..).

What happened? My d: partition, on which i have everything stored (the web map with all the pics i made, all the projects i’ve done, all my mp3s, animes, movies etc) got PWND in the ass and changed to RAW again..

How it happened? I don’t really know, i just rebooted the pc and then boom, it went raw..

What does it mean? That i got scared as hell, because this would mean “you lost all your stuff”, and had the pc saying “The drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?”… :S

This is how things looked like:
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

So what happened then? I already started downloading GetDataBack, since i had the best results with this tool, which is a really goor recovery tool, if you are searching for a recovery tool i suggest this one :)

I’m really grateful to my friend that helped me search for some tools and found an answer on that expert-exchange website, which has really good answers to many of the problems and helped me out a lot of times already.. so he found out those answers and in the middle of them there was a guy who suggested the TestDisk, which is a free utility.

TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting your Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.

What happened to me was that the boot record got damaged in some way i don’t really know.. and what the tool made was to check the backup of that partitions boot record (which is stored at the end of the partition) and compare it with the original boot record, noticing it didn’t match.. after asking if i wanted to copy the backup over the original record, it just worked.. even without a reboot… amazing!!

I have no words, i’m very grateful to their team and i will certainly donate them..

PS: i even wrote to robin hood fund for 1k $ for a new comp (for a mac actually).. i hope i get the votes and i win haha :D anyway, you can see what it’s about here.

And now good night, i have to rest because i’m half dead.
